Pavement sealer can be slippery and may not be safe for use on inclines under some conditions. Furthermore, pavement sealer is not designed for sealing steep slopes or roadways. Extreme caution should be given to traffic flow and speed of traffic flow to protect against any slippery condition that could result. It is advised that an engineer be consulted. Adding sand can help reduce slipping problems in pedestrian areas, on inclines, and other high risk areas. Use of sand does NOT guarantee prevention of slips and falls. Multiple coats of sealer can reduce abrasiveness of sand. Do not “overseal”. Excessive layers (1 or 2 coats every 2 or 3 years in usually sufficient) can result in slippery conditions or lack of bonding between layers
of sealer which can cause tracking. THE EXTENDIT COMPANY ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR SLIPS OR FALLS. Foreign matter, such as leaves, oil, gas, snow, ice etc. will cause slippery conditions on sealed asphalt when wet. Adding pavement sealer will make asphalt surfaces marginally more slippery than if not sealed at all. Consideration should be given to type of footwear, age and medical condition of facility clientele especially under wet or winter weather conditions to decide on sealer mix design. Hot Pour Crackfiller can burn. When using hot pour crackfillers be sure to follow manufacturers
instructions and that your melter is in good working condition especially the thermostat or tracking will occur.

Abbreviated Directions For using Products Manufactured by Extendit.
See Product Label And Information Sheets For Complete Information.
The pavement must be cleaned of all dust, dirt, and other loose foreign matter and vegetation with an air blower, water hose or pressure washer. All oil, grease, chemicals and plant life excretions should be scrubbed clean, or coated with an appropriate oil spot primer, available from Extendit. Under some severe conditions, pressure wash entire surface.
All cracks should be cleaned of debris, vegetation and standing water and then filled with a hot pour crackfiller. If hot pour crackfiller is not used, use X-Crack Crackfiller. For larger cracks, over 1/2” wide, use Masti-X or X-Patch Cold Patch. Keep crackfiller below surface of pavement or tracking can result. Allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before applying sealer. Follow weather warnings. FOR LARGER CRACKS: Use Masti-X Patch after cleaning the cracks as you would for crackfiller preparation. Apply in layers to assure uniform curing. Spread with a trowel or putty knife. Masti-X is for use up to 2” thick. Follow weather warnings. Over 2” use X-Patch Cold patch. Allow to dry until firm to the touch applying sealer. FOR LARGE CRACKS AND DEPRESSIONS: Use X-Patch Cold Mix. Clean area the same as for crackfilling. Apply X-Patch in layers and compact after each layer. Do not overfill. Follow weather warnings. Do not apply sealer to X-Patch until fully cured.

X-10 Concentrated Sealer (548) should be cut with water 20% to 35% ( i.e. 20 to 35 gallons of water per 100 gallons of X-10 Concentrate) depending on weather, asphalt, additive usage (2 to 3%) and application method (squeegee or spray). Do not cut X-10 Ready to Use (542) or X-10 RTU With Filler (551), these products are ready to apply to the prepared pavement. Under some conditions additives can be used to improve pavement sealer durability. Normal recommendations are for 2% to 3% additive per gallon of sealer. Adding sand does NOT guarantee the elimination of slippery conditions. Sand is usually added at a rate of 2 to 5 pounds per gallon and should have additional additive to suspend sand. Under most conditions, one coat of X-10 is sufficient. However, 2 coats may be desired in travel lanes and high volume areas. Sealer should last 2 to 3 years depending on volume of traffic and severity of weather. Allow minimum of 24 hours drying time. Stir thoroughly. Follow weather warnings. BE SURE TO READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND WARNINGS ON CONTAINERS OF ALL PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM EXTENDIT CO.
X-10 will not adhere to Gilsonite or other oil based sealers. Apply X-10 to asphalt only. Do not use on concrete. Stir thoroughly before using X-10. Do not apply sealer product to new asphalt until after it is fully cured, usually 90 days. Seal container when not in use. Empty containers must be disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Some flooring materials are adversely affected by contact with these products. Consult with flooring manufacturer.
Soiled clothes with pavement sealer stains should not be run in most clothes dryers.
WEATHER WARNING: Keep from freezing. Products exposed to freezing temperatures are ruined and must be discarded in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Do not apply sealer if there is a chance of precipitation within 24 hours of applying sealer or in overcast conditions with high humidity. Sealer will not dry properly resulting in tracking if air temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and pavement is below 60 Degrees Fahrenheit 24 hours before and 24 hours after applying sealer. Application of sealer should be completed to allow a minimum of 2 hours of sunlight to cure the finish. In extremely hot conditions a mist of water may be needed to cool the pavement to allow for proper curing of sealer. Do not leave standing water when misting the pavement. The Extendit Company accepts no responsibility and recommends not to seal asphalt that has water drainage after rain from underground springs or underground drainage coming up from underneath asphalt: Consult a professional engineer before sealing.
